The Best New Year's Resolutions that apply to Most Poets & Writers!

Okay, while I still support my "get new socks & underwear" resolution along with "take a bath," (dear friend, I do not think you have hygiene issues, this is just how my mind works...) Diane Lockward has the best list of her New Year's Resolutions on her blog that you might want to check out.

My favorites are:

1. Write on a more regular basis. Aim for three morning sessions per week. Show up at the kitchen table. Do chores later. Or not at all.

2. Remember that bad writing is better than no writing. It doesn’t all have to be your best work. It can’t be.

5. Buy as many collections by other poets as you can afford. Simply congratulating someone on his or her new book is not enough. Spread the word.

12. If your husband keeps interrupting while you are revising, politely ask him to stop.

***There are other good ones. These are just some I think are the best for my writing life. And #12 just makes me laugh (and nod!)

Happy New Year's Resolutions

  1. i should print the one about the husband interrupting while i am revising and just give it to him to say - see, it isn't me telling you this - it is the poetic world!
