Postcard from a Theme Song

I cannot get this tune out of my head this morning---

People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me till the end.
People let me tell you bout my best friend,
He's a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.

People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun
Whether we're talkin' man to man or whether we're talking son to son.
Cause he's my best friend.
Yes he's my best friend.

How do you know it's summer in Seattle?

The rain feels warmer.

Postcard from a Thought

"There is a wonderful mythical law of nature
that the three things we crave most in life
-- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind --
are always attained by giving them to someone else."

Postcard from Uncertainity

(title of photo: Enjoy Uncertainity)

A friend just emailed me this and I thought I'd share it with you, maybe it will help you in your life and art--

"I read this book, ART AND FEAR: Observations on the Perils and Rewards of Artmaking by Bayles and Orland. It’s a slim book with lots of wisdom. Here’s the last paragraph…

“In the end it all comes down to this: you have a choice (or more accurately a rolling tangle of choices) between giving your work your best shot and risking that it will not make you happy, or not giving it your best shot – and thereby guaranteeing that it will not make you happy. It becomes a choice between certainty and uncertainty. And curiously, uncertainty is the comforting choice.” Pg 118."

We each make our choice.

Postcard from a Backyard

I've ordered my writing shed and it will be built on July 30th.

I have the feeling it may be a bit larger than the spot may like, but it will be mine. It's the shape of a barn & has a gable window. I plan on painting it red. If it must be big and awkward, then it must be big and awkward with style & color, sort of like the Christmas tree that doesn't fit through the front door, we find ways of making things work.

More soon.

Postcard From Montana

Just back from a couple weeks seeing the hills and mountains of Montana on horseback. Incredible! Here's the saddle of my horse, Sox and the background of the Southern Montana just outside of Yellowstone.

To get to the dude/guest ranch we stayed at we drove down 17 miles of crazy gravel road (the fastest we could drive was 20 mph), basically an 1 hr & 15 minute drive, but it was worth it.

I'll post a few more photos soon. Weather, food, and wilderness were perfect. If you've never vacationed in Montana, I highly recommend it. I even made a friend who wore a cut-up National Rifle Association t-shirt.

Still catching up on my emails, so if you've written to me in the last 3 weeks, I'll be getting back to you soon.

Happy summer everything.
