Poetry Book Giveaway 2010
Poetry Book Giveaway, April 2010
If you're interested in participating in this 2-book giveaway, go here for the details on how to be part of it and also the full list of bloggers participating in this giveaway event.
For my giveaway, I'll be giving away my first collection of poems, Small Knots
And a favorite book of mine, Beth Ann Fennelly's Open House: Poems
Also, as an extra chance to win, I will also be giving away a One Year Subscription to Crab Creek Review!
~ ~ ~
Choosing my second book was very hard for me because many of my poet friends have great books out right now--
Susan Rich's The Alchemist's Kitchen
Allen Braden's book which just came out this week: A Wreath of Down and Drops of Blood (The VQR Poetry Series)
January Gill O'Neil's Underlife (New Voices)
Sandra Beasley's I Was the Jukebox: Poems
to name a few, and still there are so many other poets whose books I adore....
So I chose Beth Ann Fennelly's a poet and poetry book I have returned to many times and one that has stood the test of time for me.
Here's a favorite poem from this collection:
Poem Not to Be Read at Your Wedding
You ask me for a poem about love
in place of a wedding present, trying to save me
money. For three nights I’ve lain
under glow-in-the-dark-stars I’ve stuck to the ceiling
over my bed. I’ve listened to the songs
of the galaxy. Well, Carmen, I would rather
give you your third set of steak knives
than tell you what I know. Let me find you
some other, store-bought present. Don’t
make me warn you of stars, how they see us
from that distance as miniature and breakable
from the bride who tops the wedding cake
to the Mary on Pinto dashboards
holding her ripe, red heart in her hands.
From Open House (Zoo Press, April 2002) by Beth Ann Fennelly

ReplyDeleteI like the poem. People ask for a writer's work as if it just flows from them in a river on command. Sometimes the muse is kind and sometimes, things are sent that others do not want to hear. I would enjoy any of your prizes. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI already have Beth Ann's book, but I'd love a chance at yours or the subscription!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about this contest! I'm participating too, over at my blog Stars in my Sugar Bowl. Thanks for getting the ball rolling! :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I used to write a lot of poems when I was young, now I'm more into making art. Maybe I should combine the two. Glad to have stumbled on to your blog!
