I often get frustrated with friends who complain about not having time to write, but then I see them posting away on FB...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37627577.post-13801862598396045902011-03-27T14:57:03.838-07:002011-03-27T14:57:03.838-07:00Good points about both networks. I generally prefer the flow of Twitter, but both have their uses.

btw, I 'liked' the pages you told me to. ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37627577.post-77933470104765147852011-03-27T10:10:26.216-07:002011-03-27T10:10:26.216-07:00Very good post with sound honest advise!

It is not only easy to waste too much time on face book it is just as easy to convince yourself there are good reasons to do so.

There are a couple of games on Facebook that I gravitate to. Lexulous (a scrabble like game) I can convince myself I'm broadening my vocabulary. HA! Sure I enjoy it. But I love Black Walnut Icecream too but while I could eat it morning noon and night 7 days a week, I don't.

Twitter is an interesting cultural developement. It has tremendous power associated with it. We have seen in recent weeks it can mobalize people in almost a flash for change. While that has perhaps lead to some positive things, it could be used distructively just as easily.

I have used it to stay abreast with news. Baseball games. Catch up socially with people I know and as a sort of filter for interesting information. I in turn have all my blog posts announced on twitter.

I've attempted the PoetParty several times and it always seems like it is interesting but my own personal thought is that it is a regression in technology when used this way. Why? because is is so cumbersome and time consuming to communicate quickly on, meeting in an old fashioned chat room just seems so much more functional. I know there can be stigma associated wit chat rooms and I can apprecate that - and they can I suppose seem a little cliquish. I just think it is better suited for such conversation.

If I had a published book I would promote the hell out of it via bother of these mediums. They are excellent for marketing... but I'm not sure they are goingto make any of us better writers.

Thanks for the post Kelli!Michael A.
